Is saying "Jumu'ah Mubarak" a Bid'ah?

Allah – beginning with the name of – the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise is to Him who guided the believers to the truth. And may His blessings and salutations be upon our master Muhammad, the seal of the Prophets and the coolness of our eyes.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc3/s720x720/1499547_10151818962345334_1894474173_n.jpg

A message is being widely circulated these days that it is impermissible to greet Jumu'ah Mubarak and that it is a bid'ah (May Allah Forbid). First and foremost, one should understand that the salaf of this ummah have explained bid'ah (innovation) as being of two fundamental types:

In the Sahih of al-Imam al-Bukhari, it is mentioned that Sayyiduna Umar ibn al-Khattab (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu) stated concerning the 20 rak'ats of tarawih prayer, in congregation, behind one imam:

"What a good bid'ah it is!"

Al-Hafidh al-Imam al-Bayhaqi (Alayhir Rahmah) narrates through a sahih isnad (authentic chain of transmission) in Manaqib al-Imam al-Shafi'i, that Muhammad ibn Musa ibn al-Fadl narrated to us that Abu al-'Abbas al-Assam narrated to him that Rabi' ibn Sulayman narrated to him that al-Imam ash-Shafi'i informed him:

"The newly-invented matters from the affairs are of two kinds: One of them is whatever is innovated contravening the Book, or the Sunnah, or a narration, or a consensus, then this is an innovation of misguidance (al-bid'atu al-dalalatu). The second is whatever is innovated of the good which does not contravene any of these, then this is an innovation which is not blameworthy (Ghayru Mazmumatin)."

https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/1458681_10151818966435334_1876087891_n.jpg

Regarding congratulating one another on the day of 'Eid, al-Sayyid ibn 'Aabideen al-Shami (Alayhir Rahma) relates from al-Muhaqqiq ibn 'Aamir Haaj (Alayhir Rahmah) that he considered it: 'Ja'iz' (permissible) and 'Mustahabb' (commendable) in general. He also considered the wording popular in his time: 'Eidun Mubarakun Alayka' (a blessed Eid upon you) to take the same rule. He has mentioned:

"Supplication for barakah (blessing) in many affairs has reached us, thus the commendability of supplication for it here (on the day of 'Eid) can be taken from that." [Radd al-Muhtar, Vol. 2, Page 169]

The barakah of Jumu'ah and its being a day of eid is clear in the Prophetic Ahadith such as in the hadith of the Sahih of Ibn Hibban where it is mentioned that the Prophet (SallAllahu Alayhi wa Sallam) said regarding the day of Jumu'ah:

"Verily it is a day of Eid." [Sahih Ibn Hibban, Hadith 3610]

In a further hadith of the Sunan of Ibn Majah it is mentioned that the Prophet (SallAllahu Alayhi wa Sallam) said:

"Verily the day of Jumu'ah is the master of days." [Sunan ibn Majah, Hadith 1084]

https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc3/1472952_10151818966260334_635099269_n.jpg

The barakah of Jumu'ah is such that al-Hafidh Jalal al-Din al-Suyuti (Alayhir Rahmah) has gathered 100 special qualities related to it with supporting evidences in his work al-Lumu'ah fi Khasa'is al-Jumu'ah.

If one greets his brother with salam and then supplicates for him on the day of Jumu'ah saying "Jumu'ah Mubarak", then there is nothing in that which goes against the principles of the shari'ah which would make it a reprehensible bid'ah. In fact it is established that from the blessings of Jumu'ah is a hidden time in which the du'a of a slave is answered as in the hadith of the Sahih of al-Imam Muslim:

"Verily there is a time in the day of Jumu'ah, that no Muslim coincides with it supplicating to Allah for good except that Allah bestows it upon him." [Sahih Muslim, Hadith 852]

The opinion of those who are not upon the Aqidah of the Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jama'ah is of no value in matters of Deen.

And Allah knows the best and His beloved Messenger knows the best.

Fwd: The meaning of Ahl al-Bait and Who are the Ahl al-Bait?

إنما يريد الله ليذهب عنكم الرجس أهل البيت ويطهركم تطهيرا
Allah only wills to remove all impurity from you, O the People of the Household,
and by cleansing you make you utterly pure.
[Surah al-Ahzab, Verse 33]

https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc3/386440_10150401279485334_938407498_n.jpg

In this verse Allah SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala is addressing the Prophet's (SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sahbihi wa Baaraka wa Sallam) pure wives and informing them that all the advice He has given them is wholly because He wants to remove from them all types of pollution, both in attitude and in action, and to purify them thoroughly. Praise is for Allah, the Prophet's (SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sahbihi wa Baaraka wa Sallam) wives acted upon His advice so perfectly that He made their attitude and character so clean and pure that they became a beautiful example for the women of the whole Ummah. Consequently the elevation and salvation of the women of this Ummah is in following in the footsteps of the Prophet's (SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sahbihi wa Baaraka wa Sallam) pure wives.

The Pure wives are the original Ahl al-Bait and the original subject of this verse. Afterwards, through the Prophet's (SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sahbihi wa Baaraka wa Sallam) supplication, Sayyiduna Ali, Sayyidah Fatima, Sayyiduna Hasan and Sayyiduna Husayn Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhum Ajma'een entered into this divine gift and grace and came within the remit of this verse.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc3/390775_10150401280540334_1378225181_n.jpg

The meaning of Ahl al-Bait and Who are the Ahl al-Bait?

The literal meaning of Ahl al-Bait is 'those (people) of the house'. Scholars, in light of the Quran and Sunnah, have explained that there are three types of Ahl al-Bait:

1) Sakani

Those who reside in the Prophet's (SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sahbihi wa Baaraka wa Sallam) house, all the pure wives are included in this.

2) Nasabi

Those who have genealogical link with the Prophet (SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sahbihi wa Baaraka wa Sallam). Sayyida Fatima, Sayyiduna Ali, Sayyiduna Hasan and Sayyiduna Husayn (Radi Allahu Anhum Ajma'een) are included in this.

3) I'zaazi

Those whom the Prophet (SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sahbihi wa Baaraka wa Sallam) honored by pronouncing them as his family, for example the Prophet (SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sahbihi wa Baaraka wa Sallam) said

سلمان منا آل البيت
'Salmaan is from our Ahl al-Bait'

and

اُسامة  منا آل البيت
'Usama is from our Ahl al-Bait'.

Also included in the honorary Ahl al-Bait are all the pious and God-fearing believers for the beloved Prophet (SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi Sallam) also said

كل تقى آل محمد
'All the pious are the family of Muhammad' [Majma' al-Zawa'id, Vol. 7, Page 69]

In the above verse the term Ahl al-Bait refers to the Prophet's (SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sahbihi wa Baaraka wa Sallam) pure wives, the context of the verses before and after evidence this. Consequently the Pure wives are the Ahl al-Bait because of this verse whilst Sayyidah Fatimah; Sayyiduna Ali; Sayyiduna Hasan and Sayyiduna Husayn were entered into the Ahl al-Bait through the supplication of the Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sahbihi wa Baaraka wa Sallam. The Pure wives were declared Ahl al-Bait by Allah whilst Sayyidah Fatimah, Sayyiduna Ali, Sayyiduna Hasan and Sayyiduna Husayn by the Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sahbihi wa Baaraka wa Sallam. This is the belief of the Ahl as-Sunnah wa al-Jama'ah that the Prophet's pure wives; Sayyidah Fatimah, Sayyiduna Ali, Sayyiduna Hasan and Sayyiduna Husayn Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhum Ajma'een are all the Prophet's (SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sahbihi wa Baaraka wa Sallam) Ahl al-Bait and come under the order of purification mentioned in this verse.

Golden Words of Wisdom | Sayings of Sayyiduna Umar Ibn al-Khattab Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu

Gems of Wisdom by Ameer al-Mu'mineen
Sayyiduna 'Umar al-Farooq Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anho

https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/11532_210613240333_545031_n.jpg
  • To eat less is healthy, to speak less is wisdom, and to sleep less is worship.
  • To speak less is wisdom, to eat less is healthy and to mingle less with the people is safe and serene.
  • The one who steps back will not progress.
  • Nothing is worst than avarice that destroys the mind, not even Alcohol.
  • It is unbecoming of that person who sits with his hands folded and prays to ALLAH SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala for sustenance. ALLAH SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala does not rain down gold and silver from the heavens.
  • To earn a suspicious living is worse than begging.
  • The biggest gift after Iman (Faith) is your wives.
  • Attain knowledge before old age settles in.
  • Extravagance is also when a person eats whatever he wishes.
  • Whosoever hides his secret keeps his safety, safeguarded with himself.
  • The person who calls himself learned, indeed he is ignorant, and the one who calls himself from the dwellers of Paradise surely he is from the dwellers of Hell.
  • Tawbatun-NasooHa (Accepted forgiveness) is the name of that forgiveness that is asked for a bad deed committed, in such a manner that he never returns to or commits that bad deed again.
  • The Strength in action is, never to put of what you can do today for tomorrow.
  • It is not becoming of a Muslim to sit down and start praying for sustenance without attempting to earn it, he is well aware that gold and silver does not rain from the skies.
  • If it wasn't for the claim of knowledge of the unknown then I would say five people are from the dwellers of Paradise:
  1. That family man who is poverty stricken but is patient
  2. That women with whom her husband is happy and accepting.
  3. That woman who forgives he husband's duty of Mehr (Dowry approved by Muslim law)
  4. That person with whom his parents are Happy
  5. And that person who honestly repents from his sins
  • Once a sheep was slaughtered and Syeduna 'Umar al-Farooq Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho persistently asked his servant if he had first sent meat to his neighbor who was a Jew. The slave asked why you are asking the same question persistently. He answered that ALLAH SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala and his Rasūl Sallallaho Alaihi wa Sallam had constantly stressed the importance of neighbors therefore I too am persistent in stressing the same.
  • Three things build love:
  1. To make Salam (greeting)
  2. To make space for a person in a gathering
  3. To address a person in a respectable and good manner

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/20301_10151112090180334_1923607283_n.jpg
  •  There are four types of Regrets:
  1. Regret that spans over a day e.g. When a person leaves his home without eating.
  2. Regret that spans over a year, just like the negligence shown when cultivating.
  3. Regret that spans over a lifetime, when a man and his wife are unsuited to each other.
  4. Regret that is eternal, which is when your Creator is unhappy with you.
  • There are three types of people:
  1. Successful: he who listens to the advice of people and ponders over it.
  2. Lazy or Lethargic: he who does what he wants without consultation or advice of people.
  3. Corpse: who neither gives nor listens to advice and consolation.
  • Sayyiduna 'Umar Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho on many an occasion asked this du'a (supplication) to ALLAH SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala so that certain situations should always remain with him and some things should be removed, the Du'a is: "O ALLAH SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala! Make me such that I may speak with intellect or reap tolerance with silent. O! ALLAH SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala do not bestow upon me too many favours, so that I may not be confused by it, not too little that I may forget You. Hence, little yet sufficient in comparison to having plenty thereby becoming indulgent and committing sin."
  • If ever you see a learned person ('Aalim) leaning towards this World, then know this he is blameworthy for his Religion, because the universal harm is that if a person desires something then he is constantly engrossed in its quest.
  • Faith (Iman) is to regard the Oneness of ALLAH SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala in ones heart proclaim it with your tongue and to obey the fundamental Islamic Instructions.
  • The relationship of true humility and genuine fear of ALLAH SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala is with the heart and not by a show of outward actions.
  • Why have you made slaves of those whose mothers had given birth to them free?
  • Judgments or Settlements in any cases should be done quickly, so that the accused, due to a prolonged period of time are not compelled to withdraw their accusation.
  • It is absolutely necessary not to associate with a beast for though he wishes or means well, yet he would still be accused of committing a crime.
  • ALLAH SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala, shower your Blessings of Mercy on that person who informs me of my faults.
  • When a learned man takes a false step then he ensnares himself in a World of wrongdoings.
  • One day a man was praising Hadrat 'Umar Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho, he replied by saying why are you destroying me even more with my desires (Nafs).
  • I am not a fool, but I pretend to be a fool, in order to fool the fool. And just when the fool thinks I am a fool, I will expose the fool and show to him that he is the fool.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/302033_10150378895100334_672380333_8931089_1491140265_n.jpg
  • I do not look at anything, except, that I see everything with ALLAH SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala.
  • If I die in this condition that I have strived to earn an honest living then it is more beloved to me than even dying as a Martyr.
  • Good behavior towards people is equivalent to wisdom, to request politely is half of knowledge, and to ascribe to sound policies is half of one's livelihood.
  • To educate a material person is like placing a sword in the hands of a robber.
  • Do not have Faith in a person's compassion and politeness when he cannot keep his anger under control.
  • Do not have Faith in a religious person who is not tested during temptation.
  • He is a friend who brings to your attention your faults and to sing praises of a person in his presence is similar to slaughtering him.
  • Laughing decreases ones age, while politeness, glamor, pomp and show which ease living standards are indications of people who are unaware of death.
  • To show greed and avarice is impoverishing, to be unselfish is enriching and to wish compensation in patience.
  • Good deeds are the fulfillment of one's rights and to do good deeds is a substitute for bad deeds.
  • To speak less is wisdom, to eat less is healthy, to sleep less is a prayer and there is peace in solitude.
  • Youth before old age and old age before death is a blessing of life.
  • A generous person is the beloved of Almighty ALLAH SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala even though he is a transgressor. A miser is the enemy of Almighty ALLAH SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala although he may pray and remember Almighty ALLAH SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala excessively.
  • To forgive an oppressor is oppression upon the oppressed.
  • When you combine lawful with unlawful gains then the unlawful contaminates the lawful gains though it may be little.
  • A Mu'min does not keep as his friend one who is opposed to Almighty ALLAH SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala and his Prophet Sallallaho Alaihi wa Sallam even though that person may be his mother or father.
  • The sound of music and that of a mourner are two of the worst sounds.
  • There is tranquility and peace in anonymity and confidentiality.
  • We should leave the other nine portions out for the fear of Haram (unlawful). (i.e. if in ten portions one is Haram a Muslim would leave the other nine portions out meaning anything unlawful would be completely left out).

https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/163032_465912005333_2617479_n.jpg
  • Desire is never achieved without fear, nor manners and etiquette without formality, or happiness without peace or wealth without gifts or poverty without contentment, or dignity without politeness or Jihad (holy war) without diving guidance and assistance.
  • Respite before preoccupation and old age before death is a blessing of life.
  • Honour and dignity in this World is measured by wealth while honour and dignity in the Hereafter is measured by good deeds.
  • Save yourself from the Fires of Hell even if it means by doing a favour with half a date (fruit). If this too is not possible then with sweet words.
  • After Iman (Faith), there is no greater gift than a pious wife.
  • Not to postpone is strength in action.
  • Whosoever shows you your faults, he is your friend. Those that pay you lip service in praise are your executioners.
  • One who guards his secrets is surely safe.
  • The person who constantly discloses my faults to me is dearest to me.
  • Fear that person who you dislike.
  • When Sayyiduna 'Umar Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho camped on the outskirts of Jerusalem to conquer Bait al-Maqdas, the Christian Crusaders were terrified of his presence and requested a meeting with him before handing over the keys of the city. The Crusaders met him whilst he wore a patched garb. They asked him the reason as to why his name generated such immense awe and fear that captured the hearts of his enemies. He replied; "Your kings taught you to love the World (Duniyah) and its wealth and our Prophet Sallallaho Alaihi wa Sallam taught us to fear ALLAH SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala and love death.
  • He is an intelligent person who can translate his actions into good.
  • Never put off for tomorrow what you can do today.
  • There is never a chance of pain in the neck if one does not raise his head too high in the air.
  • Do not forget about yourself whilst being concerned for others.
  • To stop sinning is easier than to bear the burden of seeking repentance.
  • Remove your gaze from the splendor of the World. Do not let the love of this World enter your heart. Beware! The love of this World does not perhaps destroy you, just as it had destroyed previous nations.
  • Victory is gained through strategy and trust in ALLAH SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala, not by wishful thinking.
  • The most intelligent amongst you is he who fears ALLAH SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala the most.
  • Be sympathetic towards the poor so that they may be able to speak and build courage.
  • Extend a hand of friendship to a foreigner because if his stay is extended then he would leave his valuable possessions to return to his own country and leave that person responsible for his valuables who had been most worthy of his attention
  • Do not taunt and curse anyone for this gives rise to collective evils in a person.
  • One should not judge a person by the number of Salaat (prayer) or Roza (fasting) but by his wisdom and honesty.
  • To die for the right is better than to live for falsehood. Courage is recommend, cowardice is detestable, and falsehood is vulnerable to vanish!
  • Prayer is connected to the heart not by mere apparent actions.
  • To educate a seeker of materialism is to place a sword in the hands of a highway robber.
  • Do not trust the character of one who cannot control his temper.
  • To laugh excessively is a sign of no remorse for death.
  • To side with the oppressor is oppression on the oppressed.
  • Death is the best teacher.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/s720x720/396601_10151112129255334_228897948_n.jpg

  • The dearest of you as long as you have not met us are the best in names. But after we had seen you, the best of you to us are the best of you in character. When we scrutinize you, the dearest of you to us are the most truthful of you in speech.
  • People were (sometimes) judged by the revealing of a Divine Inspiration during the lifetime of Allah's Apostle (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Sallam) but now there are no longer any new revelations. Now we judge you by the deeds you practice publicly, so we will trust and favor the one who does good deeds in front of us, and we will not call him to account about what he is really doing in secret, for Allah will judge him for that; but we will not trust or believe the one who presents to us with an evil deed even if he claims that his intentions were good.
  • The best days we ever lived were by virtue of patience, and if patience were to take the shape of a man, he would be a noble and generous man.
  • Take yourself to account before you are taken to account, weigh your actions before they are weighed, and beautify yourself for the ultimate presentation. On that day not the slightest secret will be hidden.
  • It was Sayyiduna Umar's daily routine to visit the homes of soldiers who were on the battlefield and ask their womenfolk if they had to make any purchases from the market, and he would do it for them. They would send their maids and Sayyiduna Umar would make the purchases and hand over to them. When a messenger came from the battlefield, bringing letters from soldiers, the Caliph would himself deliver them at their homes and tell them the messenger would return on such and such date, and they should keep their letters ready by that time, He would himself supply paper, pen, and ink, and when there was no literate person in a family, he would himself sit outside the door and write to their dictation.
  • There is no goodness in you if you do not say 'Fear Allah' and there is no goodness in us if we do not listen.
  • When Sayyiduna Umar appointed anyone as a governor, he wrote down for him a covenant to which a group of muhajirs (up to ten in number) bore witness. The conditions and terms were: He would not ride a workhorse, not eat luxurious food, not wear fine garment and not shut his door to the needy. If he did any of these things then he was liable to punishment.
  • Lower your gaze from the world and turn your heart away from it.
  • I will inform you about what is lawful for me from the wealth of Allah: An outfit for the winter, an outfit for the summer, mount that I can ride upon for Hajj and Umrah, and food for my family, such as given to a man from the Quraish who is neither the richest nor the poorest among them. I am simply a man among the Muslim; I go through what they go through.
  • Allah never obliterates evil with evil, but He erases evil with goodness.
  • O Allah, you indeed know that I eat only my food, that I wear only my own clothing, and that I take only what is rightfully mine.
  • The death of a thousand worshipers is easier to bear than the death of a scholar who has knowledge of what Allah has permitted and forbidden.
  • Lo! By Allah, if I remain alive to help the widows from the people of Iraq, I will leave so much for them that they will never need to ask for help from any ruler who comes after me.
  • Beware of bribery, and of ruling based on your desires.
  • Do not be fooled by one who recites the Qur'an. His recitation is but speech, but look to those who act according to it.
  • Once Sayyiduna Umar was in his garden, when coming back, he found that the people had performed the Asr Prayer. Thereby, he said, 'We will surely return to Allah! I missed the Asr Prayer in congregation. May you witness that I gave my garden in charity to the needy so as to expiate what Umar had done.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/525595_10151112129795334_62627709_n.jpg

  • The most beloved of people to me is he that points out my flaws to me.
  • Learn knowledge and teach it to the people. Learn how to have yourselves an aura of dignity and peace. Be humble to those that have taught you knowledge, and be humble to those that you have taught knowledge. And do not be haughty scholars; otherwise, your knowledge will not rise due to your ignorance.
  • O Allah, if You have written me down as being someone who is miserable, then erase that for me; and instead write me down as being happy. For indeed, You erase whatever You wish, and You write down and uphold .
  • The Islam of Sayyiduna Umar was a victory , his migration [to Madinah] was a triumph, and his caliphate was a mercy . I remember the time when we were not able to pray or perform tawaf around the Ka'bah. That was before Sayyiduna Umar embraced Islam. After he embraced Islam, we fought against them until they left us alone; and thus we began to be able to pray .
  • Know that every habit comes by getting used to it. Get used to being patient and doing good. Be patient against whatever befalls you. It will make you fear Allah.
  • Never think ill of the word that comes out of your believing brother's mouth, as long as you can find a good excuse for it.
  • Dedicate yourself to remembering Allah, for remembering Allah is a cure. And beware of remembering people, for the act of remembering people is a disease.
  • By Allah! If I had gold equal to the earth, I would have ransomed myself with it from the punishment of Allah.
  • Each day is proclaimed, 'So and so has died!' And with no doubt it will be said one day, 'Umar died.'
  • The one who laughs too much loses dignity; one who jokes too much loses respect; whoever does something a great deal, becomes known for it; one who speaks a great deal makes mistakes; one who makes many mistakes loses his sense of dignity. Whoever loses his sense of dignity loses his God-fearing and whoever loses his God-fearing is spiritually dead.
  • Beware of filling your stomachs with food and drink, for it is harmful to the body and causes sickness and laziness in performing prayers. Be moderate in both food and drink, for that is healthier for your bodies and furthest removed from extravagance. Allah will hate the fat man (one who revels in a life of luxury), and a man will not be condemned until he favours his desires over his religion.
  • During the year of the Ashes (drought and famine), Sayyiduna Umar ibn Al-Khattab's stomach would make rumbling sound. He forbade himself from eating Ghee, and so he would eat olive oil. And he would poke his stomach with his fingers and say, 'Rumble as much as you want, for indeed, I will feed you nothing other than this until the situation of the people improves.
  • Strive to listen to what comes out of the mouth of people who are obedient to Allah. Listen to what they have to say, for indeed, truth things are made manifest to them.
  • On one particular Friday, Sayyiduna Umar did not come out to Friday prayer on time; and since he was to deliver the Friday sermon the people had to wait until he came out to them. When Sayyiduna Umar finally did come out to them, he came out to them, he apologized, explaining that, 'I was prevented from coming out because this garment I am wearing was being washed; and I own no other outfit.'
  • After Sayyiduna Umar Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu became Khalifah of the Muslim Nation, he was once seen delivering a sermon while wearing a lower garden that was patched in 12 different places.
  • Help me against myself by enjoining good, forbidding evil, and sincerely advising me.
  • O Allah, I am indeed harsh, so make me gentle; I am weak, so make me strong; and I am miserly, so make me generous.

I. Hadrat ibn 'Umar Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu reported that the Messenger of Allah SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam said,

NOTES:

1. To perform the ziyarah (visit) of the blessed shrine of the Messenger of Allah is near to Wajib (being necessary). [Fatawa-e-Razawiyyah, Bahar-e-Shari'at]

2. To perform Hajj and not to visit the blessed shrine of the Beloved Prophet is a sign of wretchedness.

Marvels and Excellence of Sayyiduna Uthman al-Ghani [Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu]

https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/37528_416070320333_4836088_n.jpg
On the 18th of Zul Hijjah, 35th year of the Hijrah, the companion of our beloved Prophet (SallAllahu Alayhi wa Sallam), Sayyiduna Uthman Al-Ghani (Radi Allahu Anhu) was ruthlessly martyred. He was the third Khalifah (caliph) amongst those known as the Khulafah al-Rashideen. His patronymic (Kunyah) is Abu Amr. He is also known as Zun-Nurayn (i.e. Possessor of two Lights), because the Noble Prophet gave two of his honorable daughters' hands in marriage one after the other to the Honorable Uthman Al-Ghani (Radi Allahu Anhu).

He embraced Islam at the very advent . He is also known as "Sahib al-Hijratayn" (the one who migrated twice) because firstly he migrated to Habshah (Ethiopia) and then to Madinatul Munawwarah.

Ameer al-Mu'mineen, Sayyiduna Uthman Al-Ghani (Radi Allahu Anhu) was an ardent follower of the Beloved Prophet (SallAllahu Alayhi wa Sallam). He was, in fact, the embodiment of love of the Holy Prophet (SallAllahu Alayhi wa Sallam). Absolute submission to the Sunnah manifests in his words and deeds.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/305852_10150359701600334_1375797826_n.jpg

One day Sayyiduna Uthman Al-Ghani (Radi Allahu Anhu) sat by the entrance of the Masjid and asked for the meat of the limb of goat and consumed it. He, then, offered Salah without redoing the Wudu and explained that the Noble Prophet (SallAllahu Alayhi wa Sallam) also consumed the same sitting on the same place, and did in the same way. [Musnad Imam Ahmed bin Hanbal, Vol. 1, Page 137, Hadith 441]

Once Sayyiduna Uthman Al-Ghani (Radi Allahu Anhu) smiled whilst performing Wudu. The people asked the reason, to which he replied, "Once I saw that the Holy Prophet (SallAllahu Alayhi wa Sallam) smiled having performed Wudu at this very place." [Musnad Imam Ahmed bin Hanbal, Vol. 1, Page 130, Hadith 415]

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (Radi Allahu Anhu) narrates, "Uthman bought Jannah twice from the Prophet. Firstly, on day of 'The Well of Ruma' and secondly, when the Muslims were in a very poor state." [Al-Mustadrak li al-Hakim, Vol. 3, Page 107; Tarikh Dimashq al-Kabir, Vol. 41, Page 49; Al-Kamil li Ibn Adi, Vol. 2, Page 464]

https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/155387_461478605333_4168044_n.jpg

When the migrants came to the blessed city of Madina Munawwarah, they did not like the taste of the water. A man from the tribe of Bani Ghaffar possessed a well, named Ruma, full of sweet water. He used to sell this water to the people. The Prophet (SallAllahu Alayhi wa Sallam) asked him if he would sell his well for a spring in paradise. The man replied, "O Prophet of Allah! This is my only income." Hearing this, Syyiduna Uthman (Radi Allahu Anhu) came and bought the well for thirty-one thousand. He then came to the Prophet (SallAllahu Alayhi wa Sallam) and asked, "Will I be able to get the spring of Paradise like you said, if i would buy the well from him?" The Prophet (SallAllahu Alayhi wa Sallam) said, "Yes." Thus, Sayyiduna Uthman (Radi Allahu Anhu) stated, "I have bought the well of Ruma and given it to the Muslims." [Al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, Vol. 2, Page 41-42, Hadith 1226; Tarikh Dimashq al-Kabir, Vol. 41, Page 49; Kanz al-Ummal, , Vol. 13, Page 35-36, Hadith 36183]

When the Prophet (SallAllahu Alayhi wa Sallam) was preparing for the battle of Tabuk, the Muslims were in needy of some financial support. At this moment the Prophet (SallAllahu Alayhi wa Sallam) sought the help of Sayyiduna Uthman Radi Allahu Anhu. Hadrat Uthman (Radi Allahu Anhu) gave 10,000 Dinars, thereafter the Prophet said, "O Uthman! May Allah forgive your outer and inner mistakes and forgive all that which you commit till the Day of Judgement. Uthman can do whatever he wills." [Kanz al-Ummal, Vol. 13, Page 38, Hadith 36189]

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (Radi Allahu Anhuma) has stated that Uthman bin Affan's (Radi Allahu Anhu) absence from the battle of Badr was because the daughter of the Prophet of Allah (Ruqayyah), who was his wife, fell ill. Allah's Prophet (SallAllahu Alayhi wa Sallam) said to him, "You will receive the same reward and share (of the booty) as anyone of those who participated in the battle of Badr (if you stay with her)." [Sahih al-Bukhari, Vol. 1, Page 523; Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal, Vol. 2, Page 101; Jaami' Tirmidhi, Vol. 5, Page 395, Hadith 3726]

This was the specialty of Sayyiduna Uthman (Radi Allahu Anhu) as whosoever does not attend the battle does not get his share of the booty. Hadrat Abdullah bin Umar (Radi Allahu Anhuma) has said, "The Prophet (SallAllahu Alayhi wa Sallam) allocated for him his share and did not do so for anyone else who was absent." [Sunan Abi Dawud, Vol. 2, Page 18]

https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/150063_461478580333_6013437_n.jpg

Sayyiduna Shurhabil bin Muslim (Radi Allahu Anhu)  has reported, "Ameer al-Mu'mineen, Sayyiduna Uthman Al-Ghani (Radi Allahu Anhu) would feed the people with lavish food, and he himself would go home and remain contented with vinegar and olive only." [Az-Zuhd lil Imam Ahmad, Page 155, Hadith 684]

He was known for his modesty, generosity and braveness. The beloved Messenger of Allah (SallAllahu Alayhi wa Sallam) said, "Should I not show modesty to one whom even the Angels show modesty." [Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2402]

Ameer al-Mu'mineen, Sayyiduna Uthman al-Ghani (Radi Allahu Anhu) has said, 'The hand by which I committed Bay'ah (spiritual bond) in the blessed hands of the Most Noble Prophet (SallAllahu Alayhi wa Sallam), I have never touched my genital organ with that (i.e. right hand) thereafter.' [Az-Zuhd lil Imam Ahmad, Page 155, Hadith 685]

Sayyiduna Uthman al-Ghani (Radi Allahu Anhu) has said, "I swear by Allah! I never committed fornication during the pre-Islamic era of ignorance nor have I committed it after embracing Islam." [Sunan Ibn Majah, Vol. 1, Page 99]

Sayyiduna Hasan al-Basri (Radi Allahu Anhu) has mentioned explaining the extreme modesty of Ameer al-Mu'mineen, Sayyiduna Uthman al-Ghani (Radi Allahu Anhu), "If he had been in some room with the door properly shut, even then he would not put off his clothes for taking the bath nor would he straighten his back out of modesty." [Hilyat al-Awliya, Vol. 1, Page 94, Hadith 159]

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/76605_461478560333_6570064_n.jpg

Ameer al-Mu'mineen, Sayyiduna Uthman al-Ghani (Radi Allahu Anhu) would always observe Nafl (supererogatory) Fasts. Having taken rest during the initial part of the night, he would stand vigil (for worship) for the rest of the night. [Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah, Vol. 2, Page 173]

Whenever Ameer al-Mu'mineen, Sayyiduna Uthman al-Ghani (Radi Allahu Anhu) would get up for offering the Salah of Tahajjud at night, he would himself arrange water for performing the Wudu. When it was asked, 'Why do you bother yourself; let your servant do it for you', He replied, "No, the night is theirs; it is for their rest." [Ibn Asakir, Vol. 39, Page 236]

Sayyiduna 'Abdullah bin 'Umar (Radi Allahu Anhuma) has reported that the beloved Prophet (SallAllahu Alayhi wa Sallam) prophesized a heretical event and informed Sayyiduna Uthman Al-Ghani (Radi Allahu Anhu) that he will be wickedly martyred in that. [Tirmidhi, Vol. 5, Page 395, Hadith 3728]

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Salam (Radi Allahu Anhu) has stated: When the rebels had laid siege to the sanctified house of Uthman Al-Ghani (Radi Allahu Anhu) even a single drop of water was not allowed to supply his blessed home. Sayyiduna Uthman Al-Ghani would feel restless due to severe thirst. He was observing fast during the day and I went to see him. He looked at me and said, 'O! Abdullah bin Salam, I beheld the Noble Prophet (SallAllahu Alayhi wa Sallam) through this skylight. The Most Merciful Prophet (SallAllahu Alayhi wa Sallam) said in a very sympathetic manner, 'O Uthman! These people have made you restless by thirst blocking the water?' I respectfully replied, 'Yes.' So, the Noble Prophet (SallAllahu Alayhi wa Sallam) immediately lowered a bucket towards me that was filled with water. I quenched my thirst. I can still feel the soothing effect of that water between both of my breasts and both of my shoulders.

The Prophet (SallAllahu Alayhi wa Sallam) then said, 'O Uthman! If you wish, I'll help you against these people; or if you like you may come to me and break your fast in my company.' I respectfully replied, 'Ya RasoolAllah (SallAllahu Alayka wa Sallam); breaking my fast in your graceful court is dearer to me.' Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Salam stated that he returned that day and Sayyiduna Uthman was martyred on that same day by the rebels. [Kitab al-Manamat, Vol. 3, Page 74, Hadith 109]

Imam Jalal al-Din Suyuti (Alayhir Rahmah) has narrated that Shaykh Ibn Batish (Alayhir Rahmah) deduced that this event (of the sighting of the Noble Prophet SallAllahu Alayhi wa Sallam) was not a dream, rather it took place whilst awake. [Al-Hawi lil Fatawi, Vol. 1, Page 151]

https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/55592_461478495333_4132594_n.jpg

Sayyiduna 'Adi bin Hatim has stated that on the day when Sayyiduna Uthman Al-Ghani (Radi Allahu Anhu) was martyred, I heard with my ears that someone was saying aloud, "Give Uthman Al-Ghani the glad tidings of comfort and fragrance; tell him the delightful news about meeting with Rab (Azza wa Jal). Who is not displeased; also give him the glad tidings of forgiveness and the pleasure of his Rab (Azza wa Jal)."

Shaykh 'Adi bin Hatim has further stated that he looked around, but he did not see anyone. [Ibn Asakir, Vol. 37, Page 355; Shawahid al-Nubuwwah, Page 209]

It has been reported that some of the close companions of Uthman Al-Ghani (Radi Allahu Anhu) took his body to Jannat-ul-Baqi' at night taking advantage of the darkness. They were digging the grave when suddenly a large number of riders entered Jannat-ul-Baqi'. The devotees got frightened. The riders said loudly, 'Do not fear; we are here to take part in his burial.' Hearing this, people's fear abated and Sayyiduna Uthman Al-Ghani (Radi Allahu Anhu) was buried in peace. After returning from the graveyard the Sahaba al-Kiram (Alayhim ar-Ridwan) swore to the people that the riders were in fact angels. [Shawahid al-Nabuwwah, Page 209]

Benediction be upon the ascetic of Mosque of Ahmad
Countless salutations be upon the wealth of army of poverty
Countless salutations be upon the bride groom of two lights of chastity
who was indeed the excellent chain of the scattered pearls of the Holy Qur'an
